Allan Hurrell

Allan Hurrell was a comrade of John Atkinson's from their training days in South Africa. He and John then attended the same training courses and went to the same squadron afterwards. They carried on flying together until Allan and his crew were shot down in the Prinz Eugen attack. Allan was the only survivor and was taken prisoner. A few years ago he wrote a piece for the BBC's "The People's War" website.

We were very privileged to meet Allan in 2013 and he helped us enormously in our understanding of the men and the times they lived and died in. We were very much saddened by the news of his death later that year.
